Asbestos fibres

Asbestos (banned from the UK in 1999) is a naturally occurring mineral favoured in the construction industry for its strength, affordability, and resistance to heat. Various building materials, such as asbestos cement sheets and roof tiles, were commonly made with ‘Chrysotile’ Asbestos (also known as white asbestos).

The inhalation of asbestos fibres can cause various respiratory diseases, including asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma. These diseases typically take decades to develop and can’t be cured. Asbestos-containing garage roof cement sheets that are damaged or disturbed during maintenance or renovation activities can release these harmful fibres, putting individuals at risk of exposure.

Due to the health hazards associated with asbestos it’s crucial to identify any garage roofs in poor condition. If you’re concerned about your garage roof, please contact us or complete our online survey to receive a quote to safely remove and replace your asbestos garage roof (if required). Our team of UKATA Certified Asbestos Experts can offer guidance on the appropriate course of action.

What is Box Profile Anti-Condensation Steel Roofing?

Box profile sheets are a popular choice for a wide range of roofing applications due to their versatility and strength. They are formed from high-quality galvanised steel, which ensures long-lasting protection against corrosion and the elements. But what sets our box profile sheets apart is their anti-condensation properties.

Condensation is a common issue in buildings and can be particularly problematic in roofing systems. It occurs when warm, moist air comes into contact with a colder surface, causing water droplets to form. This can lead to a range of issues, including structural damage, mould growth, and reduced thermal efficiency. Our box profile anti-condensation steel roof sheets are specifically engineered to prevent condensation problems, ensuring a dry and comfortable environment inside your building.

How it works

Anti-Condensation Technology

  • Absorption

Our sheets feature a specially formulated felt membrane on the underside, which acts as an absorbent layer. It absorbs moisture that may form due to temperature differentials, preventing water droplets from accumulating and causing damage.

  • Ventilation

The box profile design of our sheets includes ventilation channels. These channels promote airflow, allowing moisture to escape and preventing stagnant air pockets that can lead to condensation issues.

  • Drip Control

The unique shape of the box profile sheets helps to direct any condensed moisture towards the eaves, preventing it from dripping onto the building's interior.

Anti-Condensation Technology – DRIPSTOP

DRIPSTOP anti-condensation technology utilises a specially designed felt membrane to manage moisture within metal roof panels. This innovative felt traps moisture in pockets, gradually releasing it back into the air as normal humidity when conditions drop below the dew point, thereby preventing condensation issues.

Condensation occurs when warm, moist air contacts a cooler surface, such as metal roofing. This typically happens when temperature and humidity levels reach the dew point, leading to moisture condensing on the underside of the metal roof panels. DRIPSTOP prevents this by providing an additional layer of protection. For optimal performance, adequate ventilation is crucial to allow airflow and ensure condensation dries out between cycles.

DRIPSTOP is self-adhesive and applied during the roll forming process, arriving at the construction site ready for immediate installation. Its membrane is highly resistant to aging, ensuring long-lasting protection.

This tried and tested solution consistently delivers reliable performance in moisture management, securely attached to the reverse side of each roof sheet for durable, long-term protection against condensation.
